Just been looking at the Roll of honour and I've realised that I am currently in my 20th year of service! The only reason I know this is that The Chesters won the KO cup in 1987-88 and that was (either) my second or third appearance for the team. I know some of you old codgers will have been around for longer than that, some from the start of the League. Perhaps we could have a page on the web site for this - like a long service award!

Paul
I've been around the league for nearly 30 years. First game was up at West Denton Social Club in September 1979. I think the Police were number one. We were playing from the Miners Arms in Medomsley and of course we got lost getting there halfway to Hexham, well not quite. We won 24-16. I remember getting Within The Law right it won the Schweppes that year.
On a different score, I don't know why people don't use the web site. My view is they want breast fed well some would appear to!! Quizzes; quizmasters newsletters....................they'll want the answers next!!
A codger maybe but me old.............................never.

First game 1984 for the Board Inn Birtley away to the Masons Arms Blyth.A winning start and a winning season.I remember leo and Ray Stafford playing for us and Eddie Burns and Mick Hollan playing for Blyth. Was it really 24 years ago? Still get the same buzz sitting down to a quiz although not as keen to look at the books and keep the records as I once was!!!!

yes
long service in the league!
lenny mate where's the next roll on question!!
a few months overdue!!
i sometimes wonder mind.
a team pays no subs for two years, less than two quid a night and they won't pay.
you get people who do a season of quizzes and are actually frightened to ask for cash as they ain't used any then people who have done one have the audacuty to ask for cash, it turns out the same amount on a ratio of 9:1. time is money.
Some people then decide to manipulate the league. disband a team and join under another name for whatever reason.
Appalling just like schumacher's challenge on battiston or sadeem losing the gold cup.
At least you know it's the my last season for the pte, of course i may opt to form/join a team myself and then it will be shock horror probe, of course that wish may not be granted.
Think about it....setting precedents.....did this not happen in 1983?

Our first game was as Newcastle BRSA, nineteen eighty-odd, we were away to Morpeth Harriers and lost 18-12. We all worked in the Travel Office in the Central Station, except for Steve at that time - the team was me, Malcom Hodgson, Michael Goldsmith and Bill Cowings. Alan Heads was the q-m and I remember he wouldn't give my mate Michael the points in the individual round when he gave 'Smith' as the answer to the first man to beat Frank Bruno even though the answer was - James 'Bonecrusher' Smith! Hard times, only 30 oints scored in the whole quiz, and I don't remember anybody complaining about the questions being too hard ! I well remember our first win - away to the Pack Horse (still in the League, now Blaydon RFC) think we won by one point with 3 men - me, Malcolm & Stephen Brown. We asked them to start at 7.00 as it was our work's Xmas do that night and being good sports they agreed). Stephen had been to his xmas party in the afternoon and was totally bladdered, but credit to him, he still turned up and managed to get his individual question right - who scored for Liverpool against Roma in the European Cup final. Those were the days, I remember playing Birtley St Joseph's away and going on the bus! Davy L must have been the q-m as I remember having a conversation with him on the top deck of the bus on the way back ! The biggest laugh was in our 2nd or 3rd season when we started playing at the Old George in the Bigg Market - again it near Xmas and we were playing the Blyth team (now Whitley Bay) at home - think they were the Steamboat Inn maybe at the time. We had chosen the Old George because Malcolm''s mate was the manager and he had asked us to play there. Of course when we got there, the bloke had left and nobody knew anything about any quiz which was supposed to be in the upstairs room. The guy in charge, although you could see he was a bit naffed off about it, did offer to let us have the room but we tried to be magnanimous and said no, we don't need the whole room, only a section of it. The first bit was OK but by the time we got into the last couple of rounds, the place was starting to get chocker, John Doyle who was the q-m had a couple of lasses sitiing on either side of him, we were shouting the questions and answers at each other! I've never been so glad to come to the end of a quiz, (we lost as well!)
